There hasn’t been many birds this year. There is still plenty of berries on the trees. Unusual for the last half of January. The Waxwings have been absent. The Water Ouzels have just shown up. They fly along the length of the river, twisting with the current, returning to tease my Hound and send ripples into the dark river. During the coldest weather Chickadees hid seeds in the Mountain Ash. Now small Woodpeckers dig for them. If I didn’t know better I’d think they were all working together.
