This weekend features the annual, Bonspiel on the Lake. This event has grown over the years and is a favorite of spectators and participants. Here are a few pictures I took in 1987 for The Lake Windermere Valley Echo newspaper.
Great shots Bob! Love the last one .. A winner 🙂
Thanks Julie! Sliding rocks on ice is something we are pretty passionate about in Canada. Kind of the way New Zealanders feel about rugby. The difference is one doesn’t have to be athletic to play Curling.
We sure are passionate about our rugby 🙂
Great stuff. Many, many years ago (well before my time), when Britain was much colder than now, people used to do similar things on our Lake Windermere in the Lake District 🙂
Hi Carol. That’s really interesting. I have a glass negative from about 1915 of some newly immigrated Brits curling on our lake. I think I mentioned before our Lake Windermere is named after your Lake Windermere.
To be honest, I’m glad we don’t get winters as cold as that any more here!
