The elk have started to move onto the Swansea Ranch. Lisa and I stopped and watched the calves play. Most of the elk that will make up the winter herd are in the bush. There is plenty of sign at higher elevations. They stay hidden in the timber. It is the cooler air making them move. This seems early however.
The stars are out tonight. The mornings are dark and the nights are longer. The weekend is here. The cooler air feels good. I have a heap of firewood to split; birch, tamarack, pine and fir. I refused to do in the heat. Now the mountains and creeks are calling. The firewood may have to wait awhile yet.
